If you’ve been to Volksfling, Scotland’s VW Show, over the last five years then chances are you will have seen Jayne and Trevor Hopkins doing campervan cookery demonstrations in the big tent. They try to do things as realistically as possible: cooking on a two-burner stove and aiming to cook three dishes from scratch within an hour.
Now they’ve compiled 50 of their favourite recipes from around the world into a new camper van cookbook, published by City Slicker Publications and available to buy online from the Biggar Gallery for £10 plus P&P. I’m delighted to have provided the photos for the front and back covers (taken at Volksfling) and to have a copy to use for myself.
I’m really impressed with the imaginative recipes in Jayne and Trevor’s book. This most definitely isn’t a re-hash of recipes you’re likely to find in other camping or camper van cookbooks. They take you on a tour of simple, easy-to-cook meals from Scotland to the Caribbean, and from the Middle East to Thailand. Our family has already been trying out new some dishes.
If you’re looking for some culinary inspiration then I can’t recommend this highly enough. The Volksfling Cookbook is a free-standing, tent fold design ideal for use in the confined space of a VW Camper, measuring 210mm x 148mm (folded). All profits from the sale of the Cookbook are being reinvested to support the facilities and activities at the Volksfling Show.
Bon appetit !
