He came, he saw, he BOLTed !

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth, made his first appearance of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games last night.  The Jamaican 4 x 100m relay team cruised through to the finals and Bolt hardly seemed to break a sweat.

In spite of disliking Glasgow’s weather (hey, who does ?) he had the crowd on its feet.  The rapturous applause was almost as loud as it was after Scotland’s Lynsey Sharp ran the race of her life to win Silver in the womens’ 800m final.

The crowd loved him.  He knew it.  He tried not to upstage every other athlete in the stadium but it was kind of difficult when all eyes were on him.  He’s a fantastic athlete and a showman, and plays the part to a tee.  From his little dance routine in front of the cameras, to his poses, to him conducting the crowd in a rendition of ‘The bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond’ he wowed the crowd.

We were lucky enough to be sitting right in front of where Bolt was positioned for the final leg of the relay.

Given Bolt is the big draw at the Commonwealth Games I thought I few gratuitous photos were in order.  Some more considered thoughts on the Games as a whole will follow on my blog over the next couple of days.
